Merton Special Teaching Alliance

National Teaching Shcool

NQT+ programme

Following the success of the NQT+1 programme, our next cohort of NQT+ is due to start in spring 2021. This programme aims to embed excellent teaching and learning.

There are 6 sessions which will take place at Bishop Gilpin Primary School. The purpose of the programme is to provide teachers with the skills to develop and improve their potential. It is a very practical programme involving observations in classrooms and is aligned with the DfE Early Careers Framework.

We focus on identifying factors that create good/outstanding teaching and learning. The sessions are based on:

  • How children learn best

  • Managing behaviour
  • Questioning
  • Adaptive teaching

  • Assessment and evaluation

  • Early leadership

The sessions also include effective working with teaching assistants and creating purposeful and attractive working environments. Participants will need to work with a school-based mentor who will be asked to attend the final session in order to create an action plan.
